Together We’re Better – International Credit Union Day

At GEMC FCU, we take pride in our heritage as a cooperative financial services provider and our connection to credit unions worldwide. On October 18, we’ll celebrate International Credit Union Day along with credit unions and their members around the world.

Credit unions provide a viable alternative to for-profit financial institutions for more than 172 million members in 97 countries. This year’s theme, “Together We’re Better,” illustrates how credit unions grow stronger by working together on local,
state, national and international levels. And the result is better service to ALL credit union members.

President’s Letter
Dear Credit Union Member:

GEMC FCU, like all credit unions, has a goal that reaches far beyond simply providing financial services. We care about our members, and want them to be able to manage their finances in a way that adds to the quality of their lives as adults. People need more than the availability of good, affordable
financial services in order to reach that
goal. Wise financial management is a way of life that, unfortunately, doesn’t happen spontaneously. It is a skill developed through time, teaching and practice.

The Credit Union National Association (CUNA) has developed a financial education program for children called “Thrive By Five.” I was struck recently by how much these lessons are applicable to our everyday lives as adults. They are things that we should teach our very young children, but also things that we should review ourselves.
While they are basic, they are important keys to making sound choices in our dayto- day lives.
